Lloyd Lykes has been named assistant director for the YMCA of Chilton County.

The Y board has had discussions about creating the position for about a year and saw Lykes as a good fit.

“We are excited because he is from the community, … and he believes in our mission and will be great for our programs,” director Lori Patterson said.

Lykes joined the Y staff in May 2020 as a summer camp counselor. Most recently, he has been a teacher in the Y’s afterschool program and provided technical support.

He said he enjoys “all of the kids coming and helping them with homework and being an example.”

In his new position, Lykes wants to “help make the Y better.”  He would also like to be influential in helping the Y secure a building exclusively for the children’s activities.

Patterson said Lykes will take some of the responsibilities that she has had.

Lykes will supervise specific program directors and handle the website and technology needs.

The board wanted someone for the position who had a “college degree, experience with the Y and believes in the mission of the Y,” Patterson said.

Lykes is a 2015 graduate of Chilton County High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Auburn University.
