The Chilton Natural Resources Council has been named an Outstanding County Natural Resources Council.

The 2020 award was presented to the Council from the Alabama Natural Resources Council during its annual tree giveaway events on Feb. 23, 2021.

Only three such awards are presented each year.

Council member Brian Smith said the Council had received the award three years ago and was not eligible again until 2020.

“I can’t say enough about the Council as we come together as a team and get all of this stuff accomplished,” Brian Smith said.

Smith thanked all of the members for making each of the Council’s events a success.

“We’re excited,” council member Gay West said.

The award includes $1,000 from the W. Kelly Mosley Environmental Award program for the Council to use to fund its community programs.

“It is based on accomplishments, education/ outreach accomplishments that the committee has done within the county to educate landowners about good land stewardship,” Mark Smith, who presented the award, said.

Landowner tours to highlight best practices are just one of the programs the Chilton Natural Resources Council holds on an annual basis.

The Council holds additional training opportunities for loggers, the Water Festival and Classroom in the Forest for local students and an annual tree giveaway to commemorate Arbor Day.
