Chilton County Schools Superintendent Jason Griffin has announced that schools will be closed Feb. 16 due to weather concerns.

“All extracurricular activities for tomorrow (are) canceled as well,” Griffin said.

This will be a weather day for the system, not an e-learning day, so classwork will not be assigned.

“Everyone be safe and stay warm,” Griffin said.

Icy conditions are expected over night in some area of Central Alabama. While a state of emergency has been declared by Gov. Kay Ivey for several counties, including nearby Shelby and Jefferson counties, Chilton County is not one of the counties listed.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hard Freeze Warning for the night of Feb. 15 into the morning of Feb. 16 for Chilton County.
