The Chilton County Varsity Basketball teams saw a quick turnaround to the Christmas break as both the boys and girls teams took to the road on Dec. 28 to participate in a Christmas tournament at Pike Road High School in Montgomery. While the varsity girls enjoyed their trip with a 65-47 victory over the Notasulga Blue Devils, the Tigers varsity boys were not as fortunate as they suffered a loss to host Pike Road, 79-54.

Four points from Tyeshia Williams got the Lady Tigers off on the right foot with an 8-2 run but was answered by baskets from Tramyia Jerido and Destiny Brown to cut the Chilton lead to three. Andrea Avery sunk another basket for the Blue Devils that would make it a one point game while a three from Iasia Anderson along with another basket from Williams put the Tigers up 16-11 at the end of the first.

Keyontis Dennis added a three for Chilton to start the second and with a basket from Anderson, the Tiger lead would grow to ten. Anderson and Giles would combine to extend the Tiger lead to thirteen, while another three from Anderson would make it a 16-point Chilton lead. With the late addition of another basket from Williams, the Tigers took a 33-16 lead to the half.

The third period of the matchup was a much more closely contested affair as the teams would go basket for basket during the early minutes. Anderson started the period for Chilton and was answered by Tramyia Jerido. A three from Kelsey Cleckler would make it a 17-point Tiger lead, while a pair from Jerido and Brown cut that lead to 13. Another three from Cleckler along with baskets from Anderson and Tyonna Booker would make it a 20-point Tiger lead as a late basket from Jerido made it a 54-35 Chilton lead as action moved to the fourth.

Jerido kept the hot hand for the Blue Devils to start the fourth with a pair of baskets but was matched with baskets from Williams and Booker. Anderson made it a 20-point Tiger lead while a late basket from Andrea Avery would bring the game to its final of 65-47 in favor of Chilton.

Anderson led the Tigers with 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals while Williams added a career high 20 points, with 4 rebounds and 2 steals.

Varsity Boys action saw the Tigers dig themselves an early hole as the home standing Patriots would start the game on a 10-0 run. D’Kota Oden put an end to the run on the front side of a five point run for the Tigers that would end on a three from Brandon Glasco for Pike Road. Leighton Coppedge added a late three from the Tigers but would be answered with a basket from Harrison Wallace that ended the first with the Patriots holding a 18-10 lead.

Five quick points by Wallace to start the second would make it a 13-point Pike Road lead while Jakobe Worthy and Jakeveon Bolding would combine to pull the Tigers to within nine. Another basket from Wallace would push the Patriots out in front by twelve while also kicking off a 14-2 run to end the period that would send Pike Road to the half with a 44-20 lead.

Bolding started the third for the Tigers but would be quickly answered with a basket from Vysen Lang. Blake Durham would make it a 15-point game for the Patriots, whilte Worthy and Latavion Floyd combined to pull the Tigers to within 14. The Patriots lead grew to as many as 27 during the period before a late free throw from Kevin Staffney would make it a 65-39 Pike Road lead after three periods of play.

The fourth and final period began as a three-point shooting contest as Coppedge started the downtown shooting for the Tigers and would be followed by a three from Wallace for the Patriots and another from Bolding for Chilton. The Tigers would manage to cut the lead to 23 during the period but would be unable to cut further into the Patriots lead as Pike Road would cruise to a 79-54 victory over the Tigers.

Bolding led the Tigers with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and a steal while Wallace led the Patriots with 21 points, 4 rebounds, a steal, and a block.
