The Maplesville Town Council will be researching the specs it needs for a bid process for garbage pickup.

The need for a contract was discussed during a voting session on Dec. 14.

Attorney Hollis Jackson said that the town had been operating under a month to month agreement with R&B Sanitation. He recommended getting with some engineers to get specifics on what the town would need.

Council member Patty Crocker said this was something the Council had been discussing for months and action needed to be taken.

Council member Sheila Hall agreed.

The conversation was prompted by Rose Landrum of R&B Sanitation requesting an increase in the garbage rate.

Landrum said the cost to the company to dump the garbage at the appropriate facility increased in June. The company asked for an increase in the rate for customers to go up.

Rates have already been increased for their other costumers they serve in the county, according to Landrum.

The Council also authorized Mayor W.C. Hayes to discuss with Maplesville Methodist Church about purchasing land it may be selling.

A public hearing related to a condemnation was set for Jan. 19 at 5 p.m. The council meeting for that month will be Jan. 19 at 6 p.m.
