Students will return to LeCroy Career Technical Center on Dec. 3 after a sewer issue at the school was repaired.

Maintenance Supervisor Freddy Smith said he and his team were able to fix the issue.

Initially, a timetable for the repair was unknown because of needed parts. Smith said that some of the plumbing connections in the sewer pumping station at the school had come apart. This caused the school to be shut down until the issue could be addressed.

Smith said the station lifts sewer through the system up the hill to where the Clanton city sewer lines start.

Both pumps that are a part of the station have been replaced within the last year. However, Smith said all of the pipes are old and in need of replacement.

Smith plans to present a plan to the Chilton County Board of Education to replace these with modern welded stainless pipes and to replace the control panel in an effort to eliminate further possible failures of the system.
