Maplesville wins over Eagles

A big win for Maplesville on Friday night brought a close to a week’s worth of homecoming festivities as the Red Devils picked up a big 57-14 win over the Autaugaville Eagles.
Maplesville scored fast and often during the first period of play as the Red Devils opening drive consisted of 12 plays and 65 yards with Brady Harrison notching his first touchdown of the evening on a 4-yard touchdown run that would put Maplesville up early, 7-0.
The teams would exchange a pair of scoreless possessions before the Red Devils would use their third possession of the night to find pay dirt once again. The drive started at their own 32 yard line and looked poised to stall on a forth and two at their own 42, however quarterback Jackson Abbott broke through the right side of the Eagle defensive line and took off 58 yards for a touchdown.
A muffed ball on the ensuing kickoff would see a Maplesville recovery that set their offense up with a short field where three plays later, Harrison ended the drive with a one yard touchdown run that made it 21-0 Red Devils early in the second quarter.
Another quick score for Maplesville came by way of the defense this time as the ensuing Autagauville possession saw a first down pass attempt by quarterback Rodney Deramus fall into the hands of Latrell Wilson and returned 49-yards for a pick six that would make it a 28-0 Maplesville lead.
A quick three and out by Autaugaville proceeded a three and out by the Red Devils. Facing a fourth and 16 at their own 24 yard line, a punt attempt by Maplesville would be blocked by Taylor Sheffiled while being scooped and returned for an Eagles Touchdown.
Maplesville answered once again and would use the ensuing possession to march 61 yards while capping another scoring drive on a 20 touchdown run by Harrison.
The two teams exchanged a pair of scores before the halftime buzzer, but it would be touchdown runs of 26 and 10 yards by Harrison that would send Maplesville to the half with a 48-14 lead.
A hot clock during the second half led to a fast paced second half, a 30-yard touchdown run by Jakavion Jackson and a safety by the Red Devil defense was all the scoring by either team during the second half as Maplesville cruised to a 57-14 homecoming victory.
Abbott led Maplesville on the ground and through the air with 98 yards rushing with a touchdown while adding 94 through the air on 8 of 15 passing. Harrison added 69 yards on nine carries with 5 touchdowns.
