Clanton Police Department responded to shots fired at the Waffle House in Clanton on Sept. 5 at 3:18 a.m.

Charges have been filed against Jennifer Griffin and Adam Gibson in relation to the incident.

Griffin has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm into an occupied building. Charges will also be filed against Gibson.

According to Cpt. David Clackley of CPD, “Upon arriving it was found that one subject had been shot (Adam Gibson) in the abdomen. After investigating the incident, Sgt. Ray determined that a verbal altercation had begun between a male subject (Adam Gibson) and the employees of the Waffle House over wearing a mask. The altercation continued and another customer (Howard Harris) got involved in the altercation with the male subject.”

The altercation became physical after Harris left the restaurant and came back with a handgun. Gibson gained control of the handgun, and hit Harris with it, Clackley said.

“During the physical altercation, an onlooker (Jennifer Griffin), who was in the parking lot retrieved a handgun from her vehicle and fired through one of the windows of the building striking the first male subject (Gibson) in the abdomen,” Clackley said.

According to the police report, Griffin told a police officer at the scene that she had shot at chairs in the building to break up the fight.

Gibson was transported for medical treatment.
