The Jemison City Council has approved a transportation plan for using its first year of funding from the Rebuild Alabama Act.

The city expects to receive $19,000 this year and more in consecutive years.

According to the resolution to pass the transportation plan, the funding rate is determined based on population of the city relative to all the other cities.

The funds will be used for improvements on County Road 71, County Road 42 to the intersection of County Road 71 and County Road 231.

Council members discussed that these initial funds will not be enough to finish the projects, but it would at least start improvements.

“The roads we have listed are probably the worst roads,” Mayor Eddie Reed said.

Also during the meeting, the Council approved licenses for the sale of beer and wine that would be consumed off-site for Gander Corporation (Jemison Exxon) and Dolgencorp (Dollar General Store #21346).

Reed said there has also been good response to COVID-19 masks being handed out at the library.
