Brantly Cain has been named assistant principal for Jemison High School.

The Chilton County Board of Education approved the hire during a July 23 voting session.

Cain has 22 years of experience in education, most recently as a teacher and coach in Jefferson County.

Cain said he has driven through Jemison and the town reminded him of where he had grown up in Mississippi. The community feel at Jemison High School also appealed to him.

“I am looking forward to getting to know the community and doing my part to create community partnerships,” Cain said. “I love meeting new people.”

Cain completed his master’s degree in administration a couple years ago at Samford University.

Although Cain’s first degree was in country western music, he is from a family of educators and said this drew him to the career. His father was a teacher at the high school Cain graduated from, and his mom worked with the superintendent of the school system.

“It just feels natural to me,” Cain said.

He lives in Pelham but plans to be involved in the Jemison community. While he will not be coaching, Cain does plan on supporting the school’s teams by attending games.

He said he enjoys working in education because every day is different, and it gives him the opportunity to have a lasting positive impact on students.

Cain was one of several people hired during the July 23 online meeting. The Board also hired four teachers for Clanton Elementary, a special education teacher for CES, a teacher for Clanton Intermediate, a physical education teacher for Clanton Middle, a special education teacher and a English teacher for Chilton County High School, an elementary teacher for Isabella High, two teachers and a special education teacher for Jemison Elementary, a teacher for Jemison Intermediate, a physical education teacher and a science teacher for Jemison Middle, an English teacher for Maplesville High School and an elementary teacher for Thorsby High.

Resignations were accepted from Lauren Ladnier at JHS, Megan Dale at VHS, Jerrico Smitherman at CIS and Jaclyn Porter at JES.
