Members of the Clanton City Council reflected on the Chilton County Stand Up peaceful protest during a meeting on June 8.

“I want to thank the police department and anybody else that is here that was involved in what turned out to be good march Saturday afternoon (June 6),” Mayor Billy Joe Driver said. “Despite all of the rumors that they were going to pile in on us, we didn’t have any of that.”

He said he thought the event “turned out great” and expressed appreciation to all of those involved.

Councilman Awlahjaday Agee also expressed thanks to Clanton Police Department and the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office for their work on June 6.

Police Chief Keith Maddox thanked “the public and everyone for cooperating” during the event.

“It was a beautiful thing to see everyone come together and unite,” Agee said. “I want to ask everyone to continue to pray for our city (and) our nation.”

The Council also approved allowing Driver to move forward with researching the best way to replace a large drainage pipe on Kincheon Road. Driver said the pipe “has rusted out” is 6 feet tall and 9 feet wide.

The Council approved a new employee and paid the bills.

A community member addressed the council to ask for help with combating mosquitos that plague his yard.
