The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a series of vehicle break-ins and thefts April 24 between Maplesville and Jemison that are believed to be connected to the ones in Jemison April 22-23.

According to Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon, seven vehicles were broken into and three were stolen. He said the suspects are believed to be out of Birmingham, and CCSO does have warrants signed for their arrest.

“We have the Marshals helping us look for them right now,” Shearon said.

Lt. Lee Faulkner with CCSO said this group is believed to be a different one than those who committed similar crimes in Chilton County about three weeks ago but are thought to be the suspects who committed the more recent vehicle break-ins and thefts in Jemison.

Shearon reiterated the importance of removing valuables from your vehicle as well as not leaving keys.

“So far, there have been no windows busted out,” Shearon said. “They are going inside cars with the doors unlocked and taking whatever they can find, and if the keys are in it they are stealing the vehicle. If you see anything suspicious, call 911 and alert us so we can try to catch them.”

Other than locking all doors and removing keys and valuables, Shearon suggests parking as near to a light source as possible and setting any vehicle alarms you have in order to help deter thefts.
