Clanton Mayor Billy Joe Driver announced on March 18 the closure of city owned parks and recreation centers as a precaution against meetings of large groups of people and the spread of COVID-19.

Playground areas and outdoor restrooms have been closed.

Clanton City Hall remains open.

Residents are encouraged to use the walk up or drive through windows or call to conduct business when possible.

Precautions are being taken by employees, such as using sanitizer, etc.

City of Clanton business operations are continuing as much as possible.

“We are trying to carry on our maintenance and everything,” Driver said.

The Clanton City Council meeting that had been scheduled for March 23 has been canceled.

Driver said he would evaluate opening the recreation area after the Chilton County Schools are back in session on April 6.

Those with questions can call city hall at 205-755-1106.
