Chilton County military veterans will soon have another resource to call upon after the Chilton County Commission approved a Veteran’s Affairs office during its Feb. 25 meeting.

The Veterans Affair’s office will be located in the shopping center next to the Clanton Fire Department in downtown Clanton after the Commission agreed to a five-year lease with Kenneth Easterling to use a portion of the building.

Housing the office will cost $500 to rent per month with the county paying for utilities.

It will take about $3,500 from the county’s general fund to fix up the interior office space.

Commissioner Steve Langston has been a major part in helping Veteran’s Affairs find a home in Chilton County and brought the resolution to the Commission.

According to Langston, as a veteran himself, this was close to his heart.

Langston stated that there are about 3,000 veterans living in Chilton County and this will go a long way in getting them the assistance they need.

The plan is for the Veteran’s Affairs office to have an official grand opening in April.
