Lisa Brown has been selected as the new assistant principal for Clanton Intermediate School.

Brown will be replacing Roger Sheffield, who left the position to accept a job with the Alabama State Department of Education.

The Chilton County Board of Education approved Brown for the assistant principal position during a voting session on Feb. 18.

Brown said she is excited about the opportunity to have a positive impact on more students.

“My biggest goal … in doing this was how can I have an impact on the most amount of kids, not just my 28 but more and maybe to be a mentor to new teachers coming in,” Brown said “Teaching is a passion of mine, and I would like to share that in a leadership role.”

Brown received her master’s degree in administration in 2005 and has been a teacher at CIS since 2008.

In total, she has 19 years of experience as a classroom teacher. She first started thinking about becoming a teacher in second grade. While having a rough year, Brown thought about wanting to help students enjoy school.

“Really, I just love kids, and I have always wanted to make school a positive experience for kids that is what I have always tried to do,”  Brown said.

Brown applied for the position after hearing that it had become available.

“I have always gone by the rule of thumb that if God lays it in front of me that I need to go through that door, so it (was) kind of laid in my lap, so I thought I at least needed to try,” Brown said. “So, I did.”

She said she had mixed emotions “because I am in a classroom that I love, and I still love teaching, but I’m excited.”

“I’m excited to see what positive things we can do,” Brown said.

Brown will be closely involved in the transition to a new teacher for her students. A new teacher has not been named yet.
