The annual tree giveaway by the Alabama Forestry Commission and the City of Clanton will be Feb. 25 at 9 a.m. in the parking lot behind City Hall.

The trees are about the size of branches and are easily transported.

This event is just one of the ways that Clanton keeps its designation as a Tree City USA.

“It helps their certification and helps people who may have a spot in their year where they want to plant a tree,” Brian Smith of the Alabama Forestry Commission.

The Alabama Forestry Commission provides the majority of the trees, while some are donated by ArborGen of Selma. Smith said he enjoys getting to meet members of the community at the event and working alongside fellow members of the Chilton Natural Resources Council.

Members of the Council, as well as the Forestry Commission and the Chilton County Master Gardeners, will be at the event to provide information about planting the trees.

Smith said the event helps people understand what types of trees should be planted where. Things like planting trees that will grow tall away from power lines and houses.

If it rains on Feb. 25, the event will be in parking garage behind City Hall.
