Clanton Church of God is inviting the community to participate in its first Chili Cook-off on Feb 23.

The event is free, and prizes will be awarded for first and second place.

Event coordinator Kitty Foshee said a panel of three judges, not affiliated with the church, will be tasting and judging the chili.

Participants must have their chili to the church no later than 4 p.m., so the judging can begin.

The event with tasting and winner announcement will begin at 5 p.m.

First place will receive a $75 gift card. Second place will receive a $50 gift card.

Foshee said the church wanted to have more events for the church and the community to come together. Although she is not a judge for the event, Foshee said, for her, chili is “all about the seasoning.”

She said she is looking forward to the “fellowship” because it is needed for the church and the community.

Those interested in entering the competition can contact Foshee at kittyfoshee@gmail.com or message Clanton Church of God on Facebook.

Clanton Church of God is located at 700 15th Avenue in Clanton.
