The Thorsby Town Council voted to not approve a burn ordinance during its meeting on Jan. 6.

Enacting an ordinance for burning within the town limits had been discussed and was the primary focus on the night’s agenda.

The town has not had a burn ordinance on the books. If passed, it would have established one.

A dozen different residents attended the meeting and addressed the Council with their concerns pertaining to the possible burn ordinance.

The list of residents included Tom Huett, Wesley Hale, Mr. Coats, Butch Littleton, Donny Guy, Tim Watley, Derick Price, Willis Britt, Mark Hamm Steve Robbins, Cameron Ellison and Tiffany Hammock.

After hearing from the residents, Councilman Glenn Littleton moved to not approve the burn ordinance. Councilman Neil Benson seconded the motion.

Littleton’s motion to not approve passed with Marilyn Collins and Chastity Chapman voting in favor as well. Councilman Marvin Crumpton abstained from the vote.

Public Works Director Terry Jackson updated the Council that all but one, Boise Cascade, of the water meters had been installed. He has also met with Thorsby School Principal Corey Clements regarding their water.

The Council also approved its participation in the severe weather tax holiday scheduled for Feb. 21-23.

The minutes from the Council’s Dec. 16 meeting and payment of the bills was approved.
