The Relay For Life of Chilton County is looking for additional teams and leadership committee members to join this year’s event.

An informational meeting will be held at Jan. 6 at Clanton Church of Christ Children / Teen ministry building, 1111 Lay Dam Road in Clanton.

Community Development Manager Kalyn Frederick said the meeting will discuss goals and next steps for those participating.

Teams can register at www.relayforlife.org/chiltonal.

Each team develops different ways to raise funds to meet their donation goals.

Frederick said teams will also be “setting up a tent the night of relay and maybe having a game to play at their booth or maybe selling some sort of food item. There is not a minimum fundraising requirement but for every $100 the team raises they will have the opportunity to receive a T-shirt.”

A team can be big or small. There is no minimum number required to register.

“No minimum number of team members required but the more the merrier,” Frederick said. “We have a team captain in Lee County, Alabama and he raises over $5,000 by himself every year.”

All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. ACS provides wigs, free lodging during treatment, support and information to cancer patients and caregivers. Advocacy efforts have led to Congress approving “a $2 billion increase in medical

research funding for the national Institutes of Health, including $475 million for the National Cancer Institute in the FY18 budget,” according to ACS information.
