Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By JOYANNA LOVE/ Senior Staff Writer

Door Number 3 Films is hosting auditions for its first feature length film Jan. 3-4 at the Chilton/ Clanton Public Library.

The thriller/drama film “Vindicated” will focus on a woman who has been kidnapped by human traffickers and is trying to escape.

“We hope that we can have it completed and submitted to Sidewalk Film Festival (in Birmingham) by the end of (2020),” David Gentry of Door Number 3 Films said. “We are hoping we can use this to jump start our career.”

Gentry said auditions are open to all ages as the group looks to cast nine roles and secure extras.

“Two female parts, one minor part and one lead, … the rest are male parts, and that’s minor and major characters also,” Gentry said.

The group is looking to cast people in parts that come naturally to them.

Attendees are encouraged to pick a specific part that they want to audition for and bring a copy of the script.

Auditions will be from 1-6 p.m. on Jan. 3 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 4. Gentry said those auditioning will likely be there for 30 minutes if they have reserved a time. Those who have not reserved a spot will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Gentry said they wanted to make it so those interested could come in when they are available.

The opportunity to audition is free.

Those interested in a part should email doornumber3films@gmail.com for more details, to secure an audition time and receive a copy of the script.
Filming is expected to take place in Montevallo, Verbena and other locations throughout Central Alabama. Gentry said the latest that filming would begin would be May. Although monetary compensation is not available, food will be provided to actors during film days.

Door Number 3 Films was launched in March 2019 when friends David Gentry, Zachary Davis and Haley Cleckler came together to create a short film “The Hour.”

“I had always wanted to work in film,” Gentry said.

He had written the script for the short film about a year before the group came together.

Davis has written the script for “Vindicated” and will be directing the film. The idea originated while the group was talking at a rest stop about “all of the horrible things that could happen at a rest stop,” Gentry said.

The name was chosen because the threesome wants to tell stories from new perspectives and in ways that have not been used in films. Gentry said films usually pick two extremes as vantage points to tell a story.

“We choose Door Number 3 because we are tired of seeing the same thing being told over and over again,” Gentry said. “We want to do something different.”

Other projects for Door Number 3 Films have included music videos for local bands.
