Whether one makes an official resolution or not, the start of each new year has many people thinking about making the next year better than the one that has just ended.

Some community members shared their thoughts about the new year with The Clanton Advertiser.

Sharon Keyes said she wants to “Become more confident, stop procrastinating, spend more time with the people I love, learn to let go of grudges, stick to good, healthy habits, listen more (and) always smile.”
“Family is the most important thing to have in your life,” Keyes said. “Someday it will be only the memories I have left. It’s never too late to work on myself. Only I can change what I need to and feel good about it.”

Lynn Hudson said 2020 would be a year of major changes for her.

“Starting a whole new chapter in my life moving to California,” Hudson said.

Jemison Mayor Eddie Reed said he hopes that 2020 would be the best year for the residents. He said paving roads that need it will be a focus of the new year for Jemison, and he hopes the city will continue to attract business and grow.

“Know my worth, cause having self-esteem is very important not only for yourself but for your children watching you,” Melanie Hensley said.

Carolyn Roberson said she has abandoned the idea of setting specific resolutions.

“I don’t do resolutions anymore,” Roberson said. “They are too easily broken. I theme my years. Themes can’t be broken, only worked on. As a Christian, 2017 was ‘Create in me a Clean Heart, 2018 was ‘Be Still and Know that I am God.’ 2019 was ‘Be ye Doers of the Word’ and 2020 will be ‘Seek Him.’ It can be anything.”
