The celebrating of thanks started early for Michelle Coker’s second-grade class as they participated in the annual Thanksgiving Feast with their families on Nov. 21 at Clanton Elementary School.

Parents and family members were treated to a video of what students were thankful for before everyone enjoyed the feast.

Many students said they were thankful for family. Other answers included my dog, my teacher, the Bible and God.

“We have been doing a little studying on Thanksgiving and the first Thanksgiving,” Coker said. “We talked this morning about needs versus wants. I think we live in a society today — we are just kind of spoiled … what we think we need we really don’t need.”

Coker said they talked about being content with what we have.

Each family brought a dish to the feast, including meats, sides and desserts.

Chicken tenders were a favorite for many of the students this year.

Students Kalise McCoy said she enjoyed the desserts at the event.

Student Lane Hallman said he enjoyed “eating and being with my family.”

While student Tucker Dean’s favorite part of the day was the food, he said his favorite thing about Thanksgiving was “friends and family.”

Student Micah Bone said he was thankful for friends and family.

Coker thanked all of the family members present who helped make the feast a success.

“This would not be possible without you,” Coker said.

Parent Jill Moatts said her daughter Caroline had been looking forward to the event.

“My Daughter Caroline has been so excited about all of it,” Jill Moatts said. “She has been telling me about the video and the pictures that they drew.”

The students’ artwork was on display during the feast. Each was a drawing of what they were thankful for.

“They look forward to having parents come,” Moatts said. “They love an opportunity to have parents come to the school.”
