Creatures and characters roam at Treats on Main

The main street of Maplesville was filled with festive costumes and sweet treats on Halloween night for the annual Treats on Main.
Though the temperatures were lower, and the wind was stronger than some previous years, community members were still able to enjoy the event.
Dr. Queen Agee Morrow was handing out candy at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church booth.
“This is a safer alternative (to trick or treating) for the children and the residents of Maplesville to come together in on location,” Morrow said. “Whoever thought of this, I think it’s a good idea.”
She said she enjoyed seeing the community come together for the event.
Cristie Thomas also said she enjoyed the community coming together.
Movie characters were a popular choice this year.
“I wanted to be the Hulk,” Emerson Lawley, who was dressed at The Incredible Hulk, said.
Emerson likes the character because he is strong.
Brantley McCullough had chosen an Ironman costume. Peyton Smith was Jesse from the Toy Story movies.
She said she liked the cowgirl because she rides the horse Bullseye.
Peyton said getting candy, especially Reese’s was her favorite part of Halloween.
Maci Smith dressed as Little Red Riding Hood from Into the Woods for the occasion.
“That we get all the candy” is her favorite part of Halloween. Her favorite candy is Sweet Tarts.
“I’m an army man,” young Brock White said. “I’m Sarge.”
He said he wanted to be the character “so I could paint my face green.”
Some adults also enjoyed dressing up and handing out candy. Four employees of Guardian Credit Union dressed as gypsies and invited attendees to step inside for some candy.
Dija Fletcher and Pam Nichols were characters from “The Wizard of Oz.”
“I love my community, so I wanted to share the holiday with the children,” Fletcher said.
Hal Harrison was dressed as Forrest Gump as he handed out candy with the Maplesville Masonic Lodge.
“That’s really want the Masonic Lodge is all about giving back to the community,” Harrison said. “Every chance we get we always try to support the town of Maplesville.”
He said he enjoyed “seeing all the kids dressed up.”
“I’ve always enjoyed Halloween,” Harrison said. “It was always fun.”
