The Chilton County United Way has handed out 13 of its annual one-time grant allocations of various amounts within the past week.

Twelve of those were given as part of a special lunch at Jemison High School on Oct. 16.

The other was presented to the Town of Maplesville during its recent council meeting.

Some of the organizations that received allocations were the Chilton County Extension Office, Chilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Chilton/Clanton Public Library.

“I’m new to Clanton and Chilton County, but it’s just been wonderful to see all these great things that go in within the community,” Library Director Bernadette Roche said. “We’re very excited about the future.”

According to Roche, the $1,000 received from the CCUW will go a long way in helping the needs of the library.

“We’re very honored to have been one of the selected member agencies,” Roche said. “It’s very valued and it will be well used.”

The grants distributed by the CCUW are designed to help each of the organizations in offering a certain service or nonprofit initiative.

The CCUW grant lunch served as another opportunity for community organizations together and share ideas of ways in which they could come together to benefit the county as a whole.

“Events like this help me to see what the actual needs are out there and how the library can partner and expand the partnerships we already have,” Roche said. “It’s great to expand our connections.”

The Jemison High School culinary department cooked and served lunch at the event.
