The Chilton/Clanton Public Library has received a $3,000 grant from Sen. Cam Ward.

“It is going to be used for the children’s resources and technology,” library employee Darlene Brock said.

Ward said the funds are from education grant money senators are able to award how they choose within the guidelines.

“It has to be someone that is under the (state) education budget, and libraries are,” Ward said. “Most often we give it to public schools, but sometimes the libraries are forgotten about, and I think it is important that we recognize the libraries and what they do for the community.”

He said community libraries have long been a gathering place and continue to have an impact.

This grant comes as the latest in a line of grants the local library system has received from various sources in the last few years. Each has been used to upgrade an aspect of library services, ranging from updating book selection to replacing computers.
