The Chilton/Clanton Public Library Board celebrated the library receiving Alabama Library Association’s Bronze Level Standard Award at a recent meeting.

“This is such a proud honor for the Chilton County library,” board member Willie Mae White said.

She is in her second year on the board “and enjoying every minute of it.”

“It’s a good opportunity to have this library recognized, so that the people in this community can avail themselves of the benefits of what this library has for them,” President Jane Mason said. “We want to continue to grow.”

Mason said the goal was to have something for every age “and we are capable of doing that.”

“The library is very important to the community,” Mason said.

She said more than 100 people use the library each day.

“I am very grateful that our library has been recognized as a bronze award,” employee Darlene Brock said.

The Alabama Standard Achievement Awards serve as a type of report card for libraries to measure how well they are doing compared to the ideal.

Former director Savannah Kitchens had applied for the award by submitting an application documenting services and growth.

The Chilton/Clanton Public Library Board meets on a monthly basis to make decisions for the continuation of library services and hear reports on the various departments in the library.
