The Humane Society of Chilton County’s bingo fundraiser is back by popular demand.

This year’s event, Bow Wow Bingo, will be held on Oct. 12 from 4-7 p.m. at the Chilton County Country Club. Bingo cards will be $1 each. Participants will be asked to purchase a minimum of 10 cards by the end of night. The winner in each game will receive a cash prize.

Humane Society member Renee Helms said this time slot was chosen so older community members who do not like driving at night could still participate.

Snacks will be provided.

The board met on Sept. 24 to discuss this and other fundraising opportunities during its usual monthly meeting.

A golf tournament is being planned. Board President Lee Helms said the board was waiting for the weather to cool off.

Chili Chow and Kennel Karaoke has been set for Nov. 9 at Hidden Meadow Vineyard and Winery. Cost will be $10 per person. Chili and desserts will be served. Details on the karaoke portion are still being worked out.

A new website for the Humane Society went live on Sept. 25. Katherine Reece, who manages the website for the board, unveiled the new design during the meeting.

Also during the meeting:

  • Holding a discounted adoption event at PetSmart in Prattville to qualify for funding from Bissell was discussed. Amy Nicholas presented information to the board.
  • Nicholas talked about the possibility of having a T-shirt fundraiser. A possible design has been selected. Nicholas suggested taking orders before purchasing in order to hopefully qualify for a lower rate.
  • The board approved adding shelter director Jennifer Fesmire to the bank account, so that she could sign checks.
  • A shelter report was given by Fesmire stating that there were 112 animals in the shelter. In August, the shelter had received 151 animals and sent 96 to rescue organizations. There were 12 animals adopted in August.
