Mustangs conquer A.L. Johnson

Isabella scored four touchdowns in the first and second quarters and cruised to a 54-0 road victory against region opponent A.L. Johnson on Sept. 13.

The Mustangs led 48-0 at halftime following four first half touchdown passes by Cole Atchison.

Senior Kendall Reeves caught two of the four scoring strikes, as he continues to be one of Atchison’s favorite targets through the air. His touchdowns were lengths of 40 and 50 yards.

Justin Littlefield and Eric McNatt also hauled in touchdowns of 25 and 39 yards respectively.

Braxden Giles had another highly productive night, this time on the ground with a pair of carries for 127 yards and two scores.

The bulk of those yards came on a 95-yard touchdown run for the opening points of the game.

J.J. Wilson, Nick Simmons and Drevon Lee also ran for touchdowns on the night.

The second half went by quickly with a running clock and five-minute quarters.

A.L. Johnson finished with minus-63 total yards of offense.

It was the second consecutive week the Mustangs held the opponent scoreless and with negative offensive yards. The defense has only allowed seven points through three games.

Reid Mitchell led Isabella with seven tackles, three of which were behind the line of scrimmage.

Atchison, Kaleb Brasher and Caleb Washington each had a sack.

Thorsby offense sputters against LaFayette

The Thorsby Rebels dropped to and overall record of 2-2 and 1-1 in Region 4-2A after a 50-16 road loss to LaFayette on Sept. 13.

Although the score ended up lopsided in favor of LaFayette, the Rebels remained within reach down 18-0 heading into the halftime break.

However, LaFayette poured it on in the second half and dissipated any hopes Thorsby had of a possible comeback.

Senior Jacob Lockhart had a big night for the Rebels with 113 receiving yards and 97 rushing yards.

He was the focal point of the offense along with Adam Smith who finished with 78 yards on the ground.

Lockhart also broke up a pass on defense, while Brody Barnett, Sawyer Sellers, Koby Davis and Brent Jones tied for a team-high with five tackles.
