The Maplesville Town Council is expecting to have slightly less funding to work with in the coming fiscal year.

In the 2020 budget, which was approved on Sept. 9, revenues are expected to come in at $1,443,520, compared to $1,472,920 the previous fiscal year.

The 2020 budget incudes a lower amount to be transferred from the general fund than last year ($280,000) but anticipates transfers being made from the Alcohol Account ($50,000) and Alabama Trust Fund ($65,000).

According to Town Clerk Dawn Smitherman, these transferred funds would be used to resurface roads. If all of the projects are completed, there would not be enough funding in the regular road department revenue to cover it. The total building and street expenses in the budget are $441,200.

Bids on the resurfacing projects will be open by the Maplesville Town Council during the Oct. 14 meeting at 6 p.m.

The budget also includes an additional $41,000 in revenue from Chilton County Schools for providing an SRO for Maplesville High School.

Expenditures during the 2020 fiscal year are expected to decrease to $1,436,480 from $1,453,280 in 2019. This will give the town $7,040 more revenue than planned expenses will use. Expenses for the general and administrative expenses and the budgets for the police and fire department are expected to increase.

Salaries, insurance and payroll taxes accounted for the increase in the administrative budget.

The police budget will be $412,300 with increases in expenses for salaries and communications. The budget for this department was $370,000 during the 2019 fiscal year. The capital outlay budget also includes $15,000 for the department in case it needs to purchase a patrol car in the coming fiscal year.

The miscellaneous line item for the fire department was increased to $4,000 accounting for the increase from $38,000 to $40,500 in the department’s expenditures.

The budget also includes $1,1320 to local nonprofits and events.
