The Maplesville Town Council approved a number of monetary measures during a meeting on Sept. 9.

Maplesville High School agriculture teacher Joe Dennis and some of his FFA students requested a donation for FFA members to travel to the national convention in Indianapolis.

Two MHS graduates Anniston Bolding and J.E. Norris will be receiving their American FFA Degree award at the convention.

To qualify for the award, a high school graduate must maintain their FFA membership for one year.

The Council approved a $1,000 donation to the group.

A renewed contract with Chilton County Schools to provide a police officer for school security was also unanimously approved. Under the contract, the school system will pay the town $41,000.

Town Clerk Dawn Smitherman said there were not any major changes to the agreement.

The Maplesville Police Department received approval to upgrade four intoximeters, which is used in alcohol breath tests. The cost for the new equipment will be $1,881.

Also during the meeting:

• The Council voted to declare a 1992 Ford white rescue truck as surplus and accept bids on it. Smitherman said the minimum bid is $1,200 and the bids will be opened on Oct. 14.
• Getting estimates to seal the walking trail at the park was discussed. Smitherman said it has been a few years since the path was sealed and estimates were being gathered on how much the job would cost.
• The Council tabled a vote on its portion of funding the countywide public safety communications system.
• An amendment to the 2019 fiscal year budget was approved to incorporate additional cost for a completed road improvement project and to reflect that the project was paid for out of the general fund.
