An opportunity to enjoy Pontiac cars and help a worthy cause is coming to Clanton on Sept. 14.

Bama Birds, a Facebook group for car enthusiasts founded by Wayne and Holli Edmondson, will host a Pontiac Car Show to raise money to donate to the Ronald McDonald House from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Goose Pond Park.

Wayne Edmondson said this will be the group’s first car show. He lives in Roanoke but chose Clanton for the show because of its central location in the state.

“We want to raise money and keep it in our state (to) help the children of the state,” Edmondson said.

Those interested in registering a Pontiac for the event can call 334-646-0855 or simply show up the day of the event. Registration is $20.

Awards will be given for best of the show, best paint, best engine, best interior, kid’s choice, longest distance and best Firebird of each generation.

A committee of judges from Bama Birds will score the cars and determine the winners.

Admission is free for those who want to come see the cars. However, donations for the Ronald McDonald House will be accepted.

“We are trying to make this something big and an annual event,” Edmondson said.

Already cars from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee have registered for the event.

Door prizes and a 50/50 prize will also be given out.

Bama Birds was created “for the love and enthusiasts of the Pontiac Fireboard” and has grown to a group of more than 500 in three years.

“It’s grown into a family, actually, a tight-knit group,” Edmondson said.
