Residents at the Gardens of Clanton were looking for a way to give back to the community.

Gardens employee Tabitha Hines said some people there were planning out some events and meals for the upcoming holidays, and the idea to do a canned food drive came upon them.

“September is the month of charity,” Hines said. “We talked to the residents, and they are always wanting to do something. It’s not as easy for them to do something for the community, so we decided on a canned food drive. Anybody can bring by items they would like to donate. We will have a box to put the items in, or you can leave them with any employee.”

Gardens Administrator Vickie Patterson Moseley said the assisted living facility did a drive last year as well and is bringing it back.

The drive began Aug. 22 and will run through Sept. 13.

Anyone wishing to donate non-perishable food items may bring them by the Gardens, located at 850 Scott Drive, before 8 p.m. any day during the drive.

“Just come to the front door,” Hines said.

Hines said once the drive is complete, the collected items will be taken to the Chilton County Emergency Assistance Center.
