The Chilton County Arts Council is hosting after-school art classes again this year.

Artist Maria Hosmer has taught the classes for the past three years.

“I think it is something that Chilton County needs,” Hosmer said.

She said the classes will focus on giving students a chance to “experience with different materials” and learn some of the basics of drawing and other elements of art.

Hosmer said she enjoys “a lot of modern artists” and plans to show students some of these techniques, such as painting with dots and showing movement in art.

Hosmer said she wants the projects to be “something they can do and they can enjoy.”

The classes are open to students 7-15 years of age.

Space is limited. Registration will be held on Sept. 9 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Cost for the classes is $40 a month. All needed supplies will be provided.

Classes will meet each Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the office of the Chilton County Arts Council, 703 Second Avenue N in Clanton.

The Chilton County Arts Council is dedicated to promoting visual art in Chilton County. The Council sponsors an annual Arts Festival and March Gourd Madness festival as well as occasional smaller events. Art displays can often be seen in the Council’s windows on Second Avenue.
