Thorsby Fire Chief Josh Parker introduced a plan to charge non-town related events for the use of the movie screen at Richard Wood Park during the Thorsby Council meeting on Aug. 5.

Parker’s plan proposed a charge of $25 an hour with a four-hour minimum, which he stated would be a suitable time range for the majority of events.

According to Parker, the proposed pricing would help absorb the cost of the preparation and takedown of the screen.

“It’s just a rough draft, and is open for input,” Parker said.

There has been an increased interest in using the screen of late with a couple of parties asking about it.

“It’s good to have a plan in place to help coordinate events,” Parker said.

The plan would include the stipulation that the TFD has to approve the movie choice and it has to have the proper copyright status so that the town is not liable.

The Council tabled to Parker’s plan and will discuss it further at a future meeting.

The Council also approved Nick Turner, Blake Turner and 17-year-old Jonah Byrd as volunteers with TFD. Byrd will be part of a cadet program, which Parker has his sights on starting back up again.

Parker informed the Council that Will Johns, who has spent time with TFD, would be starting recruit school soon and the TFD has it in its budget to help pay for some of his schooling. The Council approved Parker’s resolution.

Public Works Director Terry Jackson informed the Council that the county is preparing to chip seal Peterson Avenue in a couple of weeks.

The newly paved path at Richard Wood Park is completed and was paid for by the Swedish Festival Committee.

Thorsby has had to borrow Clanton’s garbage truck of late due to the town’s truck needing some repairs.

According to Jackson, the motor runs fine but the issue is with the lift portion of the truck. The issue is being looked into.

The Council also approved a resolution by Jackson to purchase a four-post lift to use when servicing the town’s vehicles, such as oil changes.

The four-post lift will cost about $5,000. The money is in the town’s shop budget.
