Chilton County Schools virtual school option will begin accepting application Aug. 1.

Kelvin Boulware, program administrator, said the program has grown to more than 20 students.

“It’s grown every year we have had it,” Boulware said.

Deadline to register is Aug. 6.

Virtual School is available to all Chilton County students in ninth -12th grades, who have a 2.0 GPA or a 70 average.

“It has to be someone who is motivated and a self-starter to be successful,” Boulware said.

All of the coursework is completed online through ACCESS and Edmentum. However, Boulware said students still have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular events, such as prom and sports (including esports) at the school they would have otherwise attended.

The coursework is offered for free.

Reliable internet access and a computer are required to enroll in virtual school. Students will be required to take all exams at PASS Academy. Boulware said this is to ensure the tests are taken in a proctored setting.

Students are required to log in and do work each school day, but when they do the work is flexible. Boulware said this offers students more flexibility and could be good for students who will be working during the school year. He said the course style can also be a good preparation for college.
