The Humane Society of Chilton County and Pies by Mike are teaming up for a sweet way to help cats and dogs at the animal shelter.

Starting Aug. 1, board members will begin selling Pies by Mike certificates for $20 each with a portion of the funds going to the Humane Society.

Humane Society member Renee Helms said the certificates could be redeemed through Nov. 15.

“That’s near Thanksgiving, so they could get it and freeze it for then,” Renee Helms said.

The board members that are selling will keep a list of people who bought, just in case someone loses their certificate.

For more information, contact the Humane Society through Facebook or by calling 205-755-9170.

Orders must be placed between Aug. 1 and Aug. 28.

The Humane Society receives $8 for each pie sold.

Fundraising is an ongoing effort for the organization to have the revenue needed to operate.

The board discussed other events that have been successful fundraisers in the past at a recent meeting. President Lee Helms said he is talking to those who helped with the last bingo fundraiser on tweaking it and hosting it again to increase the amount raised. Jemison Municipal Complex is being researched as a location.

Lee Helms said bingo had been a successful event and raised a good amount in the past.

The potential of having another golf tournament at the Country Club is also being discussed.

“When we got done last year, they really enjoyed it,” Lee Helms said. “They wanted to make it an annual event.”

He said the first (and only) time a tournament was held the Humane Society raised $3,000 in four hours.
