Minooka Park is in the process of getting plans in place to build a bath house at its RV campground after the Chilton County Commission approved moving forward with the process during its meeting on June 25.

According to Parks and Recreation director Gerald Arrington, the park has remaining funds from a previous grant that they plan to use on the project.

“That’s probably the No. 1 request I get in the RV campground,” Arrington said. “We should have enough [funds] to make a real nice bath house.”

Arrington has also teamed up with the Industrial Development Board to form a committee with the goal of improving the nature parks system in the county.

Three new storm shelters are also in the midst of going through the finishing steps.

According to EMA director Derrick Wright, those final procedures include hooking up the propane, electricity and sewer.

The shelters will be Gap of the Mountain No. 2, New Grove No. 2 and Cedar Grove No. 2.

Wright informed the Commission during a work session that he is working with County Engineer Tony Wearren to see about how the maitenance of the shelters can be best handled moving forward.

Future repairs are planned for certain shelters, such as Isabella, Gap of the Mountain and Enterprise No. 2.

The Commission also approved Commissioner Allen Caton’s request to have a portion of road down County Road 24 dedicated to longtime Enterprise Fire Chief Raymond Hudman.

The name of the road would not change but signs of dedication would be added along the route.

“If you want to model after a fire department, it would be Enterprise,” Caton said. “I contribute 99% of that to Mr. Hudman.”
