Those who have visited Verbena High School in the past year may have had a feeling that something was missing.

Many of the composites of senior class photos had been taken down last summer when the walls were painted and were not put back up so that the frames can be changed to make them more uniform.

Assistant Principal Mark Cleckler said the photos have been kept safe in his office.

The school is collecting donations to pay for the new frames and to restore some of them.

“We got in touch with our yearbook people who give us our composites … and got a price for the frames, which was $60,” Cleckler said.

To restore the photos that have been damaged by exposure to excess sun and put them in a new frame will be $275.

“I would love to go ahead and get some ordered and get them up before orientation,” Cleckler said.

The new frames for the 1970s to 2005 composites will be black to match those from 2006 to present. The size will also match.

“A lot of alumni have already responded,” Cleckler said.

Cleckler said donors can specify a year whose frame they would like to purchase, if that year is not already taken.

The opportunity is open to any community member that would like to donate. Donations can be dropped off at VHS Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or mailed to 202 County Road 510, Verbena, Alabama, 36091. Checks can be made out to Verbena High School.
