Jemison Library hosts magician Arch Duncan

It was a time of fascinating feats for the children of Jemison as magician Arch Duncan performed during Storytime on June 19.
Duncan, a retired educator who lives in Hoover, kept his young audience in awe with a number of space-themed tricks.
He said he has been doing magic for about 34 years. Magic shows at his school when he was a student inspired him to try his hand at it.
“That piqued my interest right away,” Duncan said.
The show included a variety of tricks requiring help from the audience, including making drawings and colors appear on the pages of a book to turning a drawing into a stuffed animal by saying a magic word.
At the start if his show, Duncan asked the children to laugh if they thought something was funny and clap if they thought something was good.
However, after he made a rabbit appear, those present were asked to stay quiet so the animal did not get scared.
Assistant librarian Cheryl English said this was the first year the library was able to have a magician, and it was made possible because Duncan called them to see if they were interested in having him do a show.
“Him calling me was just a blessing,” librarian Tammie McGriff said.
McGriff had wanted to have a magician as a part of the library programming in the past, but it never worked out.
“He was good,” English said with enthusiasm.
