Independence Day is drawing ever closer, and Chilton County’s traditional celebrations for July 4 have been scheduled.

As in years past, Thorsby will start the string of celebrations on June 30. The event will feature patriotic and religious music before the fireworks display. The festivities will begin at 7 p.m. in Richard Wood Park.

Clanton and Maplesville will both have firework displays on July 4.

Maplesville’s celebration will also feature music.

Vicki Smith of Blackbelt Sewer and Drain Cleaning, which co-sponsors the event with the town, said the fun will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the band Government Cheese performing. She said the fireworks will begin when it is dark enough, usually around 8:30 p.m.

“The Kona Ice truck will be on hand as a fundraiser for the school,” Smith said.

Clanton City Clerk Debbie Orange confirmed that the event will be held in City Park (off of Highway 145/ Lay Dam Road) at 9 p.m.

According to the Lake Mitchell Home Owners and Boat Owners association website, this year’s fireworks show will be on July 6 at 9 p.m. at the mouth of Cargile Creek.

The annual boat parades will still be held on July 4. The pontoon parade will be at 10 a.m., and the speed boats will be in the early afternoon.
