Habitat for Humanity of Autauga and Chilton Counties is looking to raise funds for future projects with the Hogs for Habitat motorcycle ride on June 15.

Riders from Autauga County will meet at the Millbrook Walmart, while riders from Chilton County will meet at the Clanton Walmart at 9:30 a.m. with the participants starting the ride at 10 a.m.

The ride will end at the Central Alabama Electric Co-op location in Verbena on County Road 59 where participants will be treated to a lunch of Boston butt and sides. Daon Johnson of Habitat for Humanity said door prizes will be awarded, and a 50/50 drawing will be held with half of the money going to Habitat.

Cost to participate is $20 per rider, additional riders on the same bike are $5.

Johnson said she enjoys seeing all the riders having a good time.

“Our goal is to start another build in the fall, so this money will go to help operations and also the build,” Johnson said.

This year’s build is planned for Prattville.

“They have completed all of their sweat equity hours, and it is a family of seven,” Johnson said.

Sweat equity is volunteer hours that those receiving a house are required to complete. Families then have an affordable mortgage to pay off on their completed Habitat home.

Hogs for Habitat is in its second year. Johnson said the fundraiser went so well the organization has made it an annual event.

She said the fundraiser gives a new group of people the opportunity to help raise funds. Traditionally, the nonprofit’s major fundraiser is a golf tournament.
