Residents of Chilton County looking for different, potentially healthier options for meals are in luck.

The Nutrition Spot opened at 804 Seventh St. N in Clanton on May 11.

According to proprietor Suleyma Romero, the business offers products that are meant to help someone eat healthier and lose weight, such as meal replacement shakes, energy teas, power waffles and nutribowls.

“I wanted to help out the Chilton County community in eating healthier,” Romero said. “There aren’t really any healthy options in Clanton. There are more around Pelham and Alabaster, up that way. So, I thought (Clanton) would be a good place to start a business like this. The shakes and teas get people’s attention, especially during the hot season. People want to drink something cold.”

The Nutrition Spot uses Herbalife products to make its wares.

Romero said she herself has lost around 30 pounds using the meal replacement shakes and smoothies.

“We have energy teas with aloe vera, which soothes your stomach and helps with bloating,” she said. “The teas help burn calories and boosts your metabolism while exercising. It gives you that strength to keep going. It’s got clean energy — it doesn’t give you that shaky feeling. (The meal replacement shakes and smoothies) have around 200 calories, 24 grams of protein and 15 net carbs. It keeps you full from 3-4 hours. We also have the protein waffles and nutribowls, which people get the most.”

Romero said that business has been “pretty good” so far since opening. Customers have been hearing about The Nutrition Spot mainly by word of mouth, passing by and social media.

“I have been having a lot of customers coming by,” she said. “A lot of people are excited we have a place (with healthier options) here.”

The store is open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
