The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a person of interest in regards to a weekend homicide near Maplesville.

According to CCSO, deputies and members of Maplesville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired on County Road 807, just outside the Maplesville city limits, after 1 a.m. on April 27.

“On arrival, officers located a male victim in the front yard of a residence with a single gunshot wound to the chest,” according to Chief Assistant Deputy Shane Mayfield in a statement. “Officers and deputies administered first aid until EMS arrived. Unfortunately the victim, who has been identified as Jatwan Oshay Holman, 32 years old of Maplesville, was pronounced dead on the scene.”

According to Mayfield, the shooting appears to have been the result of an argument and physical altercation at the residence.

“The Sheriff’s Office does have a person of interest that we would like to question,” Mayfield said. “Leterrius Antoine Liggett, 32-year-old black male, left the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival.”

Liggett is a resident of Montgomery.

“Liggett is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office to arrange a safe resolution to this investigation,” Mayfield said. “Anyone having information about this investigation is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Unit at 205-755-4698 or 205-755-2511.”

Anyone with information may also anonymously contact the sheriff’s secret witness line at 205-755-7898 or on the crime tip section of the CCSO website at chiltoncountyso.org.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those touched by this event,” Mayfield said.
