The Clanton City Council unanimously approved spending $4,087 on a sign for Goose Pond Park during a meeting on April 22.

This sign will replace the one destroyed when a tree fell on top of it during high winds on March 25.

Mayor Billy Joe Driver said the replacement sign would be two-sided.

Clanton Parks and Recreation director Sally Wall said the sign would be lit by LED lights inside the sign panels.

Also during the meeting, the Council unanimously approved:

  • Paying $18,220 to W. H. Thomas Oil for petroleum products.
  • A contract with the state to bush hog the land belonging to the state along highways 145, 22 and 31. Driver said the state would pay the city for the service and has for “the past two or three years.”
  • An employee of the Senior Center requested that the facility not be rented out because a recent group had left a mess and broken a lock to the food storage area. City Clerk Debbie Orange said the city kept the group’s rental deposit. Additional measures, such as adding security cameras to document any vandalism, were discussed. Increased police presence during events in the area was also discussed. The city plans to continue renting out the facility.
