Clanton Middle School teacher Aimee Dobbs will be adding equipment to her eighth-grade family and consumer science classes thanks to a Walmart Community Grant.

Dobbs applied for funding to purchase mice for use with student’s Chromebooks, a Blu-Ray player and a dozen puzzles and bulletin boards.

The bulletin boards would be used as work surfaces for putting the puzzles together, allowing unfinished projects to be stacked without destroying the work so far.

Dobbs received $750.

The grant program is coordinated by Walmart corporate in partnership with local stores.

“It has to be community based … things to help kids learn (etc.),” Bo Battaglia, asset protection manager at the Clanton Walmart, said.

Locally, Walmart also gives to nonprofits on a regular basis as a way of supporting this community.

“We do it each month,” Battaglia said.

Application to the Walmart Community Grant program is open to 501(c) 3 organizations, public and private schools and colleges, government entities and churches for community projects.
