A resurfacing project for Mitchell Road in Maplesville is expected to be complete next week.

An update on the project was given to the Maplesville Town Council during its monthly meeting.

Concerns about a deteriorated drain on County Road 10 were also discussed. However, a timeline for this project has not been reached. According to Town Clerk Dawn Smitherman, even though the road is a county road the town had agreed to contribute funding to fixing the issue if the county would address the issue.

Mayor W.C. Hayes has discussed the problem with Chilton County Chairman Joseph Parnell. After conversation with county engineer Tony Wearren, Parnell relayed that the issues are not severe enough to be an emergency situation.

Also during the meeting, the town approved:

  • Maplesville Police Officer Josh Hubbard to attend the International Symposium on Child Abuse. His attendance to the training will be paid for through a grant.
  • A Reserve Officer to attend the training academy.
  • A three-month raise of 25 cents per hour for Librarian/Office Assistant Treasure Bice.
