The Humane Society of Chilton County is looking for donations toward a van to transport animals.

An anonymous donation of $15,000 has the organization hopeful, but $2,500 more is needed to buy the used van the shelter has found that will meet its needs. The van is expected to cost at least $17,000.

Renee Helms of the Humane Society of Chilton County said a GoFundMe donation page has been set up to raise the rest of the funds needed.

“We are so excited about a new van and extremely thankful for this donation,” Helms said. “We have located a low mileage used van. However, we are a bit short on the cost.”

The van is used to transport shelter animals to veterinarian appointments, spay and neuter appointments in Irondale, adoption events and fundraisers.

The heat and air conditioning are broken in the vehicle the shelter has now. Helms said this creates an uncomfortable ride for both staff and the shelter animals during transports.

Donations can be made toward the van here.

As of March 13, the animal shelter had raised $595 of its $2,500 goal.
