Two Isabella High School teachers were recently presented PEECh grants by the Chilton Education Foundation.

Kindergarten teacher Sonya Robinson said her grant was to purchase small dry erase boards and erasers to help students when learning vowel sounds and letters.

She said each student will be able to hold the board to write the letter and say the name.

Her grant was for $298 and will be used to purchase 10 boards and games to be used with them for learning letters.

“Perfect for kindergarten,” Robinson said.

Special education teacher Heather Drake received $650.

“I work in a self-contained classroom a special education classroom, so it (the grant) is for some sensory needs that our students have,” Drake said.

Items will include a weighted lap pad, an easel with felt on one side and a whiteboard on the other side, a specialized chair and equipment to use during the P.E. time for the class.

Although she has worked in education for several years, this is Drake’s first year at IHS, and she said she was “so excited” that her application was approved.

She said she heard about the opportunity from Robinson.

The Chilton Education Foundation accepts applications to its grant program on a yearly basis. Checks are presented in person to the recipients each year.
