YMCA to offer new classes in 2019

The YMCA of Chilton County is celebrating the new year by offering membership with no joining fee in January.

YMCA CEO Lori Patterson said the facility was also be offering new classes in the coming year.

A 5:10 a.m. fitness class will begin in January “for people who can’t make it after work.”

The three existing afternoon fitness classes are well attended, and Patterson said the Y wanted to have an option for those who might have more time in the mornings.

A Jump Sport trampoline class will be offered at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. The class is $5 for nonmembers and free for members.

A 15-week women’s self-defense class will begin on Jan. 15. Cost is $99 for those who register by Dec. 31. After Dec. 31, the cost will be $150.

Youth basketball will begin on Jan. 5. Games will be played each Saturday in January. Patterson said the community is welcome to come watch and admission is free.

“We encourage the community to come support the kids in that,” Patterson said.

Gymnastics will also begin in January.
