Billingsley 47,

Autaugaville 8

It was a happy homecoming for the Billingsley Bears, who enjoyed a comfortable victory over Autaugaville on Oct. 12.

The Bears scored touchdowns in a variety of ways, including a pair on the ground from Taylor Arington.

Arington ran eight times for 86 yards, and Carlton McCary provided a change of pace with seven carries for 54 yards and a score.

Walker Motley completed 6 of 10 passes on the night for 74 yards and a touchdown strike to Brisen Tatum.

The receiving touchdown was one of Tatum’s team-high three receptions that he hauled in for 22 yards.

Billingsley’s defense forced three turnovers on the night following interceptions by McCary, Davory Huffman and Levi Arington.

Huffman returned his to the end zone for a pick six and a defensive score.

Ty Rawlinson and Landon Messer each recorded a sack in the contest.

The Bears improved to an overall record of 4-3 and 3-1 in Region 4-1A.

Billingsley travels to face Notasulga on Oct. 19.

Jemison 34,

Marbury 22

The Panthers got their first win of the season thanks to an all-around performance from both sides of the ball.

According to head coach Van Clements, the defense played really well as a whole and the offensive line worked as a unit.

Jemison (1-6, 1-3) leaned on its offensive line and ran the ball 40 times for 233 yards and five touchdowns on the night.

Of the five rushing scores, four different players found the end zone.

Noah Gilliland ran for two touchdowns while Daniel Martin, Sasha Davison and A.J. Jackson each added one of their own.

“Daniel Martin did a nice job getting us in the right play at the line of scrimmage,” Clements said.

Jackson led the rushing attack with 83 yards on 14 carries.

On the defensive side of the ball, Hunter Lowery intercepted a pass and Deonte Williams forced a fumble.

Williams led the team with five tackles, three of the solo variety.

The Panthers penetrated the Marbury backfield on several occasions.

Colin Tillery finished with three tackles for a loss and Daniel Maddox had a sack.

Next up for Jemison is a road matchup against Region 3-5A leader Demopolis on Oct. 18.

Notasulga 41,

Verbena 0

The Red Devils remained winless on the season following the loss.

It was the fourth time that Verbena had been shutout during the 2018 campaign.

The game was only the second home game of the year and the first for the Red Devils since the season opener on Aug. 31.

Verbena travels to take on Lanett on Oct. 19. It will be the first time that the two teams have met on the football field.
